The Southern Foodways Alliance Career Servers project houses oral history interviews with food and beverage workers who served in the industry for over twenty years. Wanda Ware started as a crew member at Milo’s in 1990. After working her way up to management, she retired in 2020. My full interview with Ware can be found here on The Southern Foodways Alliance archive.
“Make sure you have a passion for it. Make sure you have compassion for other people; have sympathy for other people, empathy for other people, because you never know who you crossing, why some things might be the way they are, and why they might be feeling the way they feeling or what might be going on with them. You never know. And if you working in the business, please have compassion for it. Please have passion for it. And please be honest with your person that employs you, yeah. Honesty's the best thing, yeah. Have a work ethic; want to work. Be trainable. Be teachable.”
